History of Resnik CLC

The groundbreaking for the new Judith A. Resnik CLC building took place on November 12, 2005. The dedication was held on December 16, 2006 and classes started on December 18. The school is named in honor of Judith A. Resnik, the American engineer and NASA astronaut who was born in Akron, OH in 1949 and died in 1986, when the Challenger space shuttle was destroyed during its launch. She was the second female American astronaut in space. The original school building was known as the Fairlawn School, named for the village of Fairlawn, and was constructed in 1929. It was part of Portage Township until it was annexed by the city of Akron in 1931, when the city extended its western boundary. Fairlawn can trace its "school" to the 1820s. The 1929 building contains, in its cornerstone, the names of the children and teachers of the school and a history of Portage Township.
Today, we enjoy living the Learner Profile with our Primary Years Programme of Inquiry.  PYP or Primary Years Programme is an inquiry approach to learning which is rigorous, yet designed for all students. We have a strong emphasis placed on the ideals of international understanding and responsible citizenship.
We now use PBIS which is Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports which is a proactive approach that we use to improve Resnik CLC every day. Here is our plan for the expectations and setting at Resnik: Resnik PBIS Matrix
